How to dress for success for your upcoming family session
Planning outfits for your family photography session can be challenging. But it doesn't have to be. Today I'm sharing my favorite how-to tips to look great on camera!
When putting together the color palette for your family, I advise opting for pastels, neutral colors, and jewel tones. It looks great on camera and they look especially nice in natural, outdoor environments. Adding layers like a statement necklace, a chunky knit sweater, a blazer, a tie to pull, or a hat to hide behind adds texture, depth, and personality to your portraits. I recommend avoiding branded clothing or shirts with lettering as it tends to date photographs.
Another important aspect is to coordinate clothing, but not match. If mom has a patterned dress that she loves, pull a few colors from that and weave them through all the outfits. We want to try coordinate colors, but not match outfits. If one daughter is wearing boots and a skirt, your other daughter can wear a dress and flats, or pants and a blouse. Outfits don't need to be the same. They shouldn't be the same. This is where you can let each individual personality shine through.
Above all, my number one tip is to dress comfortably. When you feel comfortable with what you are wearing, your confidence will shine through!
